The Importance Of Art Funding For Education Essay
The Importance of Art Funding According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, art is defined as ââ¬Å"something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelingsâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Artâ⬠). With that being said, it is almost essential that art is maintained as a general course required for every student to take. While having art classes in schools available for students is important, it is also equally as important for the school funding for the art programs to be regulated throughout each district. By using a simple student to teacher ratio to determine how much money should be allotted to each teacher, this reoccurring problem could be solved for good. One of the main problems in the art program throughout the United States is the regulation of funding within the program. For example, while one teacher has one hundred students and another may have seventy, the teacher with seventy students gets a budget of five hundred dollars when the teacher with one hundred gets only three hundred and fifty. On top of that, not only is it unfair to the individual teachers, but it is also happening all over the United States to teachers in the same district. In an article about secondary art programs, it states that ââ¬Å"the art teacher at School Number Two was operating with 78% of the funds as the teacher at School Number One. Because the two schools are within the same district, this is a difference that seemingly defies explanationâ⬠(Kraft 55). For the techniques of writing or treating the class system, I think Strindberg uses an appropriate setting in the play. The setting is on Midsummer Eve, a festival of pagan origins celebrated in Northern Europe. On Midsummer Eve, the regular provincial life is paused, as Miss Julie claims all rank should be forgotten (5). Thus, Midsummer Eve is a suitable setting for the crossing of social boundaries between Jean and Miss Julie. It gives Miss Julie, a master, an excuse to dance and so flirt with Jean, a servant. This also shows the rigidity of the class system in the late 19th century Europe, if there is no this festival, servants and masters can never play together. What Strindberg tries to do by establishing the impression of the rigid class system, is to show readers the consequences when people in the play break the rule under this class system. In 1888, the balance of power in society was firmly with men, but Strindberg creates a dilemma by placing the man of his play in the lower class and the woman in a higher one. The normal solution of premarital sexual relationship for people is to get married, but because of class barriers, Jean and Miss Julie can never get married. Actually, if Miss Julie and Jean do not divulge the secret, no one would know their liaison and they can still lead a normal life in the town. Yet, the point is Jean and Julie who have been deeply instructed by their strict class system to see themselves in a certain way. For example, Jean thinks his social position is even lower than animals A dog may lie on her ladyships sofa; a horse may have his nose patted by the young ladys hand, but a servant (12). Thats why although no one blames them, Julie is scared and pressured to death. For me, the saddest thing is that the pressure imposing on Julie and Jean is not by other social members, but by themselves. This is what makes the play powerful and tragic to show the monstrous class system. This is also one of the special ways Strindberg treats this play. The attitude or manner of the playwright towards the play is closed related to how he writes or treats the play. Throughout the play, I think Strindberg adopts a critical attitude towards class system. He aims to criticize the inflexible and evil class system by portraying the perplexity and agony of people that under the control or influence of the class system, the lack of the individuality of people who is bound by the origin or heredity of their family and the inequality of the class system that makes the lower class suffer. As for Julie and Jean, both of them belong to different classes, the former belongs to the upper class while the latter belongs to the lower class. However, these two prisoners of their own class do not fit comfortably whine the rigid social structure of their time. This is symbolized by their exactly opposite dreams. As for Jean, he wants to climb up and up until the top of the tree, while Julie wants to climb down and down until reaching the very ground. .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d , .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d .postImageUrl , .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d , .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d:hover , .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d:visited , .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d:active { border:0!important; } .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d:active , .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ua61aad03097feea2fd70e060b3f4545d:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Carlyle's statement EssayIts nothing special that the lower class wants to be the upper class, but the irony lies here is that Julie who is regarded as the prestigious and privileged class also wants to get rid of her own class. Strindberg cleverly creates this abnormality to highlight the perplexity of their under the class system. The reason is that although both of them eager to get rid of their own social positions and even exchange the positions with each other, they are not able to do so as it is originally bound by their blood. Here Strindberg criticizes the inflexibility of the class system ignoring peoples effort trying to change the present situation, like Jean, he is a class-ambitious servant, although he sleeps with Julie to achieve his ultimate aim (becoming a member of upper class), his position of being a servant is a fact of life. This is proved by his becoming inferior again when being reminding of the voice of the count. I think most people would agree that each of us is an individual. However, in Miss Julie, in one sense, people lack individuality. For example, Julie may not regard herself as an individual in a sense that she is bound by the reputation of her social class and cannot do whatever she likes. She wants to be liberated to live for her own life without needing to conform to societys norms. This can be shown by her preferring beer than wine (7) (upper class is supposed to drink wine rather than beer). The class system in Miss Julie is portrayed as unequal and cruel to the lower class. In the play, the upper class is just described as possessing supreme authorities while the lower class as inferior than animals (as mentioned before). For instance, although Jean is the fianc of Christine, when their master, Julie, orders him to dance with her, Christine has no say by saying that isnt for me to say (4), I know my place (5). Although Julie is the master of them, I think she has no right to order Jean to dance with her, she is just abusing her class superiority and it is unfair to Jean and Christine. As for me, Julie is nothing more superior to her servant because she is just luckier than them by being born in an upper class family. What Strindberg tries to do in the play is to explore the abuse and unfairness of upper class to lower class in order to remind the upper class that they are just luckier than their servant but not superior to them.à To conclude, Miss Julie is a wonderful play studying the psychology of people among different classes (how they struggle to get rid of their own class). And it is good that Strindberg gives a holistic treatment on the class system in his time by showing readers its characteristics and problems (rigid, inflexible and unfair) and how people react to it once they break the taboo.

At the age of 16, Miles was playing as a professional musician whenever he was out of school. During his final year at high School he was so refined that he was playing as a reliable member of Eddie R andleââ¬â¢s band, the Blue Devils. At the same time Tiny Bradshaw was strongly persuading him to join their band but his mother insisted that he had to finish his secondary school education before joining the band. In 1944, after his high school education, he traveled to New York where he was to pursue his dream without the influence of his parents; however he had gone to the state to study music at Juilliard School of Music. In the midst of his studies he started playing at Mintonââ¬â¢s Playhouse and Monroeââ¬â¢s night clubs. He did not finish his studies at Juilliard but dropped saying that the school offered a lot of classical European and ââ¬Å"whiteâ⬠repertoire. He started playing in clubs as a freelance singer (Ward and Burns, 2000). In 1945, with Herbie Fieldsââ¬â¢s group, Miles entered into studio to record as a side man. For the next three years, he was looking for a good collaboration to start recording as a leader, however this was hard to come by. He d ecided to go it alone in 1948 (Cook Brian, n.d). 1948- 49 This is seen as the period that saw the birth of cool Jazz. In 1948, Davis made friends with Gil Evans, an established singer of the time who housed a lot of young singers in his apartment. This gave Davis a chance to interact with young and old singers of the time. Evans was the founder of Claude Thornhill orchestra where he tried incorporating a new style of music. In the time, a total number of ten people were involved in the move. Davis got interested in the new development that he was made a leader. Using the nonet, they performed in different places across New York and were applauded for quality. However, the group did not last past 1949, where there was a change of personalities. The level the project had reached was comfortable to Davis and could not leave it at the point so he held on to the new system. Advertising Looking for research paper on art and design? It later came to be known as cool jazz. After the break of the nonet, Davis and Evans remained good friends; they had similar mission and worked hard to benefit from it. 1950ââ¬â54 Davis traveled to Europe and found a complete new development where African music had dominated the continent. The music was more appreciated than any other music. He got into a relationship with Juliette Greco (French singer and actress). When he went back to New York, Miles suffered depression partly as result of leaving his love in France and had no friends (his friends were left in Europe); he resorted to taking drugs. He got addicted to heroin and witnessed his friend die of the drug. His efforts to stop taking the drugs hit a hard rock until he decided to return to his father in St. Louis where he locked himself in a room. He p layed only in Detroit and vowed not to return to New York. 1955 ââ¬â 58 After recovery from drugs, Davis decided to go back to New York and try his luck there. He attended Newport Jazz Festival where he played as a solo artist. He recruited young musicians and formed what came to be called ââ¬Å"first great quintetâ⬠. 1960ââ¬â¢s to 1991 This was the time that electric music had started to develop but he held to his style. He got married to a model and song writer Betty Mabry; however he divorced her after a year. This time he was still using cocaine but his music had already gotten in the system of Americans and Europeans. He made travels to Colombia, France, and United Kingdom among other European countries where his style of music was applauded. In 1979, he rekindled his love with actress Cicely Tyson who worked tirelessly to see him out of the drug menace. She was successful. After regaining health and form he continued doing what he liked most with a young band whi ch saw him play his last song in Columbia called Youââ¬â¢re under Arrest. He also was able to make a strong band which had personnel like Mino Cinelu and guitarist John Scofield, who had adopted his kind of music. Read Edgar Allan Poe The Cask Of Amontillado Example
Read Edgar Allan Poe The Cask Of Amontillado Example Read Edgar Allan Poe The Cask Of Amontillado ââ¬â Book Report/Review Example The critical essay, ââ¬Å"The Motive for Murder in "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allan Poeâ⬠was written by E.V. Baraban of the of Vancouver. As the title indicates, the focus of analysis and criticism in this piece centers on trying to ascertain what the motive was for the murder of Fortunato. Baraban dismisses the claims by other critics that Montresor must have been insane. She points to an essay written by Poe at about the same time ââ¬Å"The Cask of Amontilladoâ⬠was published. In the essay, Poe claims that all of the details in his stories serve a purpose. This attention to form places Poe in league with the Russian Formallists, who felt the same way about their work. As a result, details revealed in ââ¬Å"The Cask of Amontilladoâ⬠would be irrelevant if Montresor were insane. Through the course of the criticism, the author continues to lead the reader to think that something in the text, a subtle word or phrase, will reveal Montresorââ¬â¢s motivation . I was disappointed to find that by the end of the article, all the critic had done was belabor the point that it most definitely was not because the murderer was insane. Hints are made about the social standing of the two characters and the time of the murder, but these do not really offer much insight into what the ultimate motive was for revenge. It is, in the end, left to the reader to draw his or her own conclusions. I feel as though this piece of criticism and analysis really drew me in at the beginning, but failed to make the salient points necessary to offer a satisfying conclusion. Perhaps too much was promised in the first few paragraphs of the criticism for a suitable conclusion to be possible.Termsprotagonist (pro-TAG-eh-nist) A protagonist is considered to be the main character or lead figure in a novel, play, story, or poem.flashback (flash-BAK): ââ¬Å"an interruption of the chronological sequence (as of a film or literary work) of an event of earlier occurrenceâ⬠theme (theem): a common thread or repeated idea that is incorporated throughout a literary work. Japans High Speed Growth Model and Extent Vietnam Followed the Model Essay
Japans High Speed Growth Model and Extent Vietnam Followed the Model - Essay Example To understand the high-speed growth, of Japan, which took place after the war was over, we should first understand its development and history of Japan during 18th and 19th century. During this time Japan relied on agricultural technology which it developed. the then government of the Meiji took some modernized measures which propelled the economy of Japan later in the 19th and early part of 20th century and by the year 1945 Japan was considered one of the most powerful nations both economically and militarily, and this led to the basic foundation structure of the post-war high speed growth. Comparing Japan and Vietnam would not be a correct approach but we can say that Japanââ¬Ës high speed growth model has effected the economic situation of the Vietnam in a major way. Both following the assumptions of Solow Model and both overturning their economies after their economies was shattered by wars only confirms the fact that Vietnam has learnt some important methods and steps to improve their economic situation from the high speed growth model. The whole issue is bolstered by the fact that if we look at the present situation Vietnam grew at a rate of 7.5 percent per year from the period of 1995-2004 and this is recorded as faster growth next only to the Asian superpower china. This was the time of crisis in that region with Soviet Union collapse but Vietnam only improved further with its foreign investment equal to 8 per cent of its GDP which is higher than china. All this suggests only one aspect that the revolution of renovating economy which it was inspired from the h igh speed growth model of Japan has only improved the situation of Vietnam and its economic structure.

Health and safety management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Health and safety management - Essay Example Nonetheless, this essay focuses on the safety culture in healthcare organizations. According to Power (2011), having a culture that promotes and supports safety has been identified as core to improving safety in the healthcare sector, as well as other organizations. For this reason, healthcare organizations today are adopting concepts of safety culture from other high-reliability industries such as nuclear energy and aviation. This includes the implementation of teamwork and communication models in healthcare organizations. In addition, this involves the creation of work environments that promote the safety of patients. In doing this, healthcare organizations have the goal of becoming high-reliability organizations (ECRI Institute 2009). In the context of the healthcare organization, safety culture encompasses different aspects, including ââ¬Å"belief that harm is untenable, ability to speak up and raise concerns, obligation to listen when others have a concern, recognition of perso nal and organizational hazards, and obligation to work as a teamâ⬠(ECRI Institute 2009, p. 2). Safety culture in a healthcare organization also involves commitment to safety by the highest levels of the organization (Occupational Safety & Health Administration n.d). Additionally, in order to promote organizational commitment to safety, the leaders offer incentives and rewards (Goodman 2004). This also involves adequate communication among all workers across different organizational levels. Above all, there is openness about errors and reporting of problems in the organization, and organizational learning and effective response to problems and errors is maintained (Leonard & Frankel 2006). Furthermore, Eeckelaert et al. (2011) note that a healthcare organization that strongly upholds a safety culture frequently assesses its safety culture through different assessment methods, including use of interviews and questionnaires on the staff and management. Oh (2012) notes that, most healthcare organizations in the United States today highly focus on patient safety and quality improvement. Patient safety culture is therefore, considered part of the safety culture in healthcare organizations. This is because healthcare organizations provide services to patients, thus patients are their main clients. Oh (2012) notes that patient safety culture begins at the top, which is the highest level of the healthcare organization. Goodman (2004) notes that the executive leadership in healthcare organizations must promote a culture of safety and be committed to it, in order for this to be emulated by the other people in the organization, since patient safety culture involves everyone at different levels of a healthcare organization. Nonetheless, according to ECRI Institute (2009), in order for such initiatives of patient safety and quality improvement to be successful, it is necessary for the healthcare organization to embrace an overall culture of safety. Black (2002) argues that a safety culture is of benefit to healthcare organizations. This mainly involves looking after the health and wellbeing of patients and staff. Without a safety culture in any healthcare organization, there are different detrimental consequences that will be experienced. A safety culture in healthcare organization promotes the health and wellbeing of the staff. Staff are core to any organization, therefore, imperative for the organizational performance (Hall

Aldi Case Essay Example for Free
Aldi Case Essay Aldiââ¬â¢s organized and simple supply chain allows for fast shipment. However, what makes Aldi unique is that while it carries a diverse set of 1,500 products, it does not compare to the number of products sold by Walmart at 125,000. Therefore Aldi offers an enjoyable shopping experience for its customers. Customers do not feel overwhelmed by all of the choices of products like they may do at a Walmart store. A major difference between the two companies is how fast they replenish their products. Walmart uses an extremely complex system that can create lag time in the supply chain. Also, Aldi strives on promoting its own brand unlike its competitors. 95% of its goods are the Aldi brand. I believe Aldi is different from its competitors because the company is foreign based and that it is a small format. In the New York Times article about why Aldi has succeeded in cities where Walmart has not it says a major reason is because of its small product line. A simple product line has allowed Aldi to be very profitable. Focusing on one genre of products to sell, Aldi can increase the quality of those products. The company does not spread itself out too thin and strives on brining the lowest best quality product to the shelves. )Why have they been so successful over the years? This should be from a consumer perspective. Different from #1 which is from the company perspective. What is the compelling consumer need or perception that they fill in the marketplace. How do they compare to our biggest discounter in food, Walmart? I believe Aldi has become so successful over the years because the company strives on simplicity. Employees of Aldi understand consumer behavior very well. They know consumers are lazy and want to be in and out of stores in the quickest time possible. Therefore, Aldi management has created a shopping experience meant for the ââ¬Å"in and out shopperâ⬠which has seen great positive affects. To be the most efficient store, Aldiââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"do not accept checks or credit cards. There is no butcher or bakery, and fruit is sold in bags to speed checkout. â⬠Compared to Walmart, a store that offers a far less enjoyable consumer experience, Aldi strives to be different. Unlike Aldiââ¬â¢s, Walmart stores can sometimes be intimidating to consumers because of the vast array of product offerings. Consumers find shopping at Walmart to be difficult because there is not a lot of help and that the store is just too large. Aldiââ¬â¢s on the other hand, creates a much more consumer friendly atmosphere by offering only food and household items. Also when you walk into an Aldi store, you are immediately in a shopping aisle. The store is designed so consumers need to walk through every aisle creating more chances of incidental exposure. Aldi stores are not designed to look pretty. The only purpose they offer to consumers is to help them find products that they need. 3)After visiting our local Aldiââ¬â¢s store, why do you think this global powerhouse may struggle to do well in the US? What was your initial impression of the store? Who shops there? After visiting the store, I believe this global powerhouse may struggle in the US because the inside of the store is not very conducive to providing a great shopping experience. The aisles are messy and the products look as if they were pulled out from the back of a truck. The store is dimly lit and seems almost dirty. When I walked into the store, I was originally taken back because I had a mindset that it was going to be very nice. However, I was wrong. I did not enjoy my surroundings and I did not believe that Aldi focuses on the high quality portion of their mission, but only the low cost. Also, the customers that Aldi attracts are lower class individuals. These people shop in bulk and are attracted to the store because of the low prices. They do not care about the sloppiness of the displays just that they can get the lowest price. 4)Knowing what you do about assortment, what part of the ROA equation do you think they maximize? Explain. I believe Aldi maximizes the total assets part of the formula. Because the company strives on stocking it shelves with a limited number of products, their total assets are relatively low. This creates a higher ROA. Aldi has done a very good job at maximizing sales while controlling expenses. The higher the income and lower the total assets shows how well Aldi is producing earnings from its assets. 5)Now, talk to someone that has shopped at a Trader Joeââ¬â¢s, also owned by Aldi. Why do you think this similar strategy with a completely different execution (in store look and feel) might be more successful here in the US. Look at their US locations for Trader Joeââ¬â¢s. How can they continue to have limited assortment and yet cater to a more affluent target than Aldiââ¬â¢s stores? Based on the article you read, why do you think Trader Joes and Aldiââ¬â¢s are so secretive about their business? Many US businesses see it as PR if they are covered in the press, these entities feel this is unnecessary. What would you do if the head of marketing for the parent company, adapt to US marketing standards of transparency builds relationships or keep your image hidden and let your products, locations, etc speak for themselves? (Explain your rationale using marketing principles not just your opinion). I believe this similar strategy with a different execution of Trader Joeââ¬â¢s is more successful here because they are more aware of what American consumers want and how they shop. Trader Joeââ¬â¢s connects with its consumers on a more personal level. Their employees are friendly and their displays are unique, creating an overall enjoyable shopping experience. I think Trader Joeââ¬â¢s is more successful because the company swaps selection for quality. Customers have begun to trust Trader Joeââ¬â¢s in that what ever is on their shelves is the best possible product. Aldi does not have this trust yet. With time, more and more customers will begin to trust the foreign company in that their offerings are of the best quality. Also, I believe Aldi needs to focus ore on creating nicer displays. Currently, these stores are very messy and this could be a reason consumers do not like shopping there. Trader Joeââ¬â¢s can target more affluent people by offering more unique products. Already it offers exotic, affordable luxuries and for it further differentiate itself from Aldi, Trader Joeââ¬â¢s should expand these types of products while cutting back on more common products they sell. Based on the article, I believe Aldiââ¬â¢s and Trader Joeââ¬â¢s are so secretive about how they run their individual businesses because they have been so successful. I believe they do not want larger stores such as Walmart and Target to figure out their key to success. Because Walmart and Target occupy a large sector of the market and are both extremely powerful, Aldi and Trader Joeââ¬â¢s do not want to be overtaken by them. If I were head of marketing I would continue with keeping the companies image hidden for a period of time. If this tactic was not working, I would soon then adapt to a more transparent company. US consumers like to hear from their favorite companies and they like to feel a connection to the upper levels of management, therefore companies who are more hidden from them may not fare as well.

Responsibility of Designers to the General Public :: essays research papers fc
As this topic could in most cases be considered controversial, this paper is simply the written with views and opinions that I feel about this specific topic. According to Merriam-Websterââ¬â¢s Online Dictionary the term ââ¬Å"responsibility is defined as ââ¬Å"1 : the quality or state of being responsible : as a : moral, legal, or mental accountability.â⬠(http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=responsibility&x=0&y=0 ) The question raised in this topic is what, if any, responsibility do graphic designers have to the general public? Should graphic designers be held liable for what their employers have them to do? In my humble opinion, I say no. There is no responsibility of designers to the general public. It is the ones who pay for these designs to be held accountable. It is in my opinion that only the laws of the country and the moral laws or character of the person determine the responsibility of that person. While one could contest that a graphic artist should be responsible for making something that they knew could have a negative impact on others, I contest. à à à à à The freedom of speech granted to us by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution allows people and graphic artists to express themselves in ways that some or even most of us would not approve. However it is well within their legal rights to do so. No matter how much we may despise or dislike the views that someone else has presented in the form of graphic images for whatever purpose, we cannot take away their freedom of expression. That is what makes this country great, because it is that freedom, which allows the people who dislike or oppose a specific ideal, to oppose it. It also allows them to present their contrasting view. I feel that as long as the graphic artist is abiding by the laws of the land then he/she is protected in a legal sense. However since he/she is putting forth some work for the public to view, he/she is open to public scrutiny. I feel it is up to the person viewing the artistic piece to take responsibility for what they view or do not view. For far too long now, we as a society have tried to shift or lay blame elsewhere rather than on ourselves. It is up to the individual to educate themselves on the topic the piece presents so they can have a firm stance in their position.

Limited Government Essay
1) Explain how each of the following limits the powers of the national executive. â⬠¢ Federalism â⬠¢ Checks and balances Federalism is a system where the governmental authority is divided between national and state government. As a result, federalism is always limiting the power of the national executive. Check and balances is another system where the governmental authority is divided between the three branches; the executive, the legislative, and the judicial. Every branch has the power to limit and control each other. Thus, none of the three branches can gain too much power or become tyrannical, including the executive. 2) Explain how each of the following two provisions in the Bill of Rights limits the powers of the national government. â⬠¢ Establishment clause â⬠¢ Guarantee of a public trial Establish clause is a provision that prevents the national government from favoring or establishing a national religion. The establishment clause states that there should always be a ââ¬Å"separation wallâ⬠between the church and the government. The guarantee of a public trial limits the power of the national government while it makes all the trials open to the public. Therefore, the government has always to take care of the public opinion and to try to protect the rights of every citizen. 3) Choose one of the following and explain how it limits the power of state governments. â⬠¢ Citizenship clause of the Fourteenth Amendmentà â⬠¢ Selective incorporation The citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment guarantees the rights of citizenship. It states requirements of the national definition of citizenship, such as the birthright citizenship (which describes that all persons born in the United States are therefore citizens of the country) and it limits the power of the state government while it restricts it from violating those rights.

Memorable Passage Reflection ââ¬Å"Whilst I was saddened by the thought of losing the aid of my kind mistress, I was gladdened by the invaluable instruction which, by the merest accident, I had gained from my master. Though conscious of the difficulty of learning without a teacher, I set out with high hope, and a fixed purpose, at whatever cost of trouble, to learn how to read. The very decided manner with which he spoke, and strove to impress his wife with the evil consequences of giving me instruction, served to convince me that he was deeply sensible of the truths he was uttering. It gave me the best assurance that I might rely with the utmost confidence on the results which, he said, would flow from teaching me to read.â⬠(Douglass, 29-30). When his master tells his wife to quit teaching him, that only motivates and encourages him to continue because he knows that education is valuable or Mr. Auld wouldnââ¬â¢t be telling his wife to stop.
